Before buying a graphics card: an upgrade checklist

Before ordering a graphics card, check the exact model against your case, power supply and intended use. Two cards with the same GPU name can have different dimensions and power requirements. Use the manufacturer’s specifications for the particular card you are considering.

Start with your monitor and applications

  • Note your screen resolution, refresh rate and the games or applications you use. For work software, check the developer’s supported hardware guidance before comparing products.
  • Treat estimated FPS as guidance rather than a guaranteed result. Game settings, the rest of the system and software updates can change performance. Ask about the complete configuration when comparing two systems.

Check physical clearance

  • Find the exact card’s length, height and slot thickness, then compare them with the case manufacturer’s clearance information. Account for any installed radiator, front fans and adjacent expansion cards.
  • Check that the card and its power cable can be fitted according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A card’s marketing name or photograph is not a substitute for a measurement. If the case model is unclear, ask our team before purchasing.

Check the power supply and connectors

  • Read the card manufacturer’s power-supply recommendation and connector requirements. Identify the model of your existing power supply and check the cables approved for that model.
  • Do not choose a power supply using its wattage number alone. If a replacement or additional cable is needed, confirm the correct part and installation requirements with the manufacturer or our team.

Compare the exact offer before ordering

  • Check the model number, memory specification, ports, current EUR price, availability and product warranty. Similar-looking listings may represent different editions of a card.
